Chapter 26- Haley in a Tree

February 15, 2023

It’s funny how my frightened heart becomes less scared as each one of my kids begins to learn to disappear.

When Craft was the first, I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Then when Sage did it, I was definitely freaked out, but in seconds she re-appeared on that rock, so it was like a heart murmur. Now that Haley has disappeared, something told me she will be back as well. In fact, when she said “up in that tree”, I then looked up in the tree and actually saw her appear on a big limb. That was honestly unbeleiveable. Imagine looking up in a tree and seeing nothing there and then all of a sudden there’s your daughter sitting on it. Really crazy.

“—and then I’ll be… holy crap I’m in the tree!”

And that she was!

“Don’t fall, Haley please,” Angela screams up to her. “Oh my goodness. Why did you decide to teleport up there?”

“Um, I don’t know,” Haley responds, hugging the big tree trunk. “I wasn’t really actually thinking at the time obviously.”

“Well now how are you going to get down?” I ask.

She is about 20 feet in the air on that tree limb. There are no other branches for her to climb down from. If she jumped, there’s a really good chance she’ll break something. Or at least really hurt something. I think for a few seconds.

“Just jump down,” I say. “I’ll catch you.”

“No!,” Haley screams. “ I am not doing that.”

“Come on,” I try and persuade. “I promise I will catch you.” I think I said that with confidence, but I wasn’t really confident. I mean, it’s probably going to hurt a little- with her 85 pound body colliding with me along with the force of gravity. It could be a knee to my head. Who knows? But it’s all I could think of.

“What if we grabbed a blanket,” Hops says, “and we all held it and caught her in it like firemen do?”

“That’s actually a good idea, Hops,” says Haley up there. “Did we bring a blanket?”

“No,” Angela responds. “We would have to drive back to the condo to get one.”

“That would be a long time sitting in this tree,” Haley says.

“Why don’t you just teleport back down?” Sage says out of nowhere.

We all just have a moment of silence on that comment. As crazy as it sounds, it’s probably the safest choice ever. Of course, this teleporting thing is obviously new and fairly untested, but it does make a lot of sense. But I think we are also amazed at the level of intelligence this little girl has. Where does she come up with this stuff?

“How do these thoughts enter your brain?”, I have to ask her.

“I have no idea,” Sage answers, “but it is a good idea right?”

“It is, Sage,” Haley says down to us. “Oh boy. I’m scared. I hope I can do this. I’m not really sure how I did it just now.”

“Yes you do,” Craft tells her. “Just say to yourself you want to be down here.”

“Ok,” Haley says apprehensively. She takes a deep breath. And then another one. I can tell she is really nervous about what she has to do.

“Don’t be scared, Haley,” Sage declares. “You can’t be afraid of this gift. Just do it exactly how you just did it. You got this.”

More sage advice from Sage.

“You’re right. I got this,” Haley says with more confidence. “All I have to do is just appear down there and—“

And then she wasn’t in the tree anymore.
