Chapter 20- Sage Shows Her Age

November 29, 2022

It wasn’t more than a second…and there appears Craft- right in the middle of us!

It was at that moment again where I noticed that smell of burning feathers- or something burning. Is it flesh? Goodness I hope not! I also notice a small bit of smoke- like a very small cloud… or that smoke that billows quickly from a cigarette. It’s not overwhelming and it disappears fast, but it’s there. And it’s very strange. I remember Nightcrawler in the X-Men comics would have a similar cloud around him when he would teleport. The artists would always use the word ”BAMF!” when he would do it, and this cloud of smoke would always be around him. But I don’t remember them ever explaining the smoky clouds and why they happened. I feel like at some point I need to know the answers. If Craft knows how to teleport but it’s burning his skin- or even worse like burning time off his life- is this really a gift? Or is it something else? I gotta know. I will find out- but for now- let’s get back to the story.

Once he appears with us, we all go nuts. We all group hug him and jump up and down with elation. Those few minutes my son was gone and then reappeared and then disappeared only to appear right in front of us again were probably the largest emotional roller coater of minutes I have ever been on. I went from complete devastation that my son disappeared from the rest of my life to pure, unadulterated joy that I could hug and touch him once again. Twice I went through those emotions.

We finally let go and Craft is still yelling and pumping his chest like he scored the game-winning 3 pointer. He is so excited he just did something no human can do. I would be too.

“Yeah!!!!!” He screams. ”Let’s go!! I just teleported!!”

“I want to try!” Sage yells.

“Oh honey,” Angela sweetly says to her. ”I don’t know if that’s a good idea.”

“Why not, mommy?” Sage asks up to her. ”I think this might be the gift Adam was talking about.”

“Well then I want to try it!” Hops pipes in.

“Oh honey—“, Angela starts to say but Hops cuts her off.

”Mom! I’m doing it!” he says, and squeezes his eyes so hard.

Nothing happens.

“Dang,” Hops says sadly. ”I didn’t get a gift.”

“You’re trying too hard, Hops,” Sage says, as if she is an expert on teleportation already.

“How do you know, Sage?” Hops asks a great question.

“I don’t know,” Sage answers. ”I just do. And I watched Craft do it.” She points to a big rock. ”He just calmly said something like, ”I want to be on top of that—“

And just like that Sage vanishes just like Craft did.
